Chief Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 24, 2026
Overview
Chief by Catching Print provides a personalized briefing experience across web, PWA, and mobile surfaces. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.
This draft is based on the system we are actively building and should be finalized against the production implementation before App Store submission.
Information We Collect
We may collect the following information when you use Chief:
Account information
- Your email address
- Your name, if you provide one
- A sign-in or account token used to reopen your brief and account on a device
Brief and preference information
- Your selected editor
- Your selected topics
- Your delivery schedule and time preferences
- Your city or location preference, if provided
- Membership or waitlist preferences
Product activity information
- Brief records created for your account
- Archive history associated with your account
- Whether a brief has been opened or read in the app
- Whether a sign-in link or delivery email was requested or sent
Optional connected-service information
If you connect a supported calendar provider, we may store the minimum information needed to provide calendar-related features, such as:
- Calendar connection status
- Provider-specific tokens or refresh credentials
- Selected calendar-related preferences
Technical and diagnostic information
We may log technical information needed to operate and secure the service, such as:
- Timestamps for account actions
- Delivery attempts
- Sign-in requests
- Error logs
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Generate and deliver your brief
- Personalize the topics, editor, and schedule associated with your brief
- Let you sign in across devices
- Maintain your archive and settings
- Operate, troubleshoot, and improve Chief
- Administer membership and waitlist experiences
Email Use
We may send email for:
- Sign-in links
- Welcome or onboarding messages
- Brief delivery, if you opt in
- Membership or product updates, where you request them
In non-production environments, email sending may be restricted, suppressed, or limited to approved test addresses.
Testing and Staging Environments
We may maintain non-production environments for internal testing, quality assurance, and mobile app development.
These environments may:
- Use separate databases or infrastructure
- Contain test accounts or copied configuration patterns
- Suppress outbound email entirely
- Limit email delivery to approved internal or test addresses
We use these controls to reduce the risk of accidental communication with real users and to safely test new features before release.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share data with service providers that help us operate Chief, such as providers that support:
- Hosting and infrastructure
- Email delivery
- Payments, if and when paid subscriptions go live
- Connected calendar integrations
We share only the information reasonably necessary for those services to function.
Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide the service
- Maintain your archive and settings
- Comply with legal obligations
- Resolve disputes
- Enforce our terms
Internal testing or staging environments may retain separate test data for a limited time for development and quality assurance.
Account Deletion
If you delete your account in the app, Chief deletes the account record tied to your sign-in token along with saved briefs, waitlist state, billing-state records, and calendar connection records stored for that account, subject to any legal or operational retention obligations.
If you purchased a subscription through Apple, deleting your Chief account does not by itself cancel the Apple-managed subscription. You should also manage or cancel that subscription through your Apple account.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information associated with Chief. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Chief is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
